Puffed rice/Maramaralu/Muri/Murmura Kichidi

Green Patios, Wind chimes, Balmy breeze, Glass of wine buzzing summer signs!!!Wanna finish my May post with a appetizing recipe. In this holiday season this kichidi will be a gr8 snack r breakfast item. People like who loves muri to core will enjoy this recipe at when one will :)This recipe I have seen in a cookery show, at a glance it stole my heart n rushed in to kitchen n tried out. My fav pastime is watching n trying out new recipes from cookery shows. Guess many of them love to do the same. Jumping to the recipe, before that take a snap shot of my yummy platter :):)


Ingredients :

  • Puffed rice/Maramaralu/Muri/Murmura 2 cups
  • 2 tbsp Oil
  • 1 potato (boiled n cubed)
  • One fist peanuts  (dry roast n make in to a powder)
  • 1/2 tbsp. coriander/dhania powder
  • 1tbsp chili powder(adjust acc to taste)
  • 1/2 tbsp. ginger garlic paste
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • 3 tbsp fresh grated coconut
  • Pinch of sugar (optional)
  • Salt
  • lemon juice
  • coriander leaves for garnish

For tadka/popu/talimpu :

  • 1/4 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1/2 tsp jeera/cumin
  • 1/2 tsp chanadal
  • 1/2 tsp uraddal
  • few curry leaves
  • Pinch of hing

Preparations :

  1. Peel the potato n cube and boil them till soft.
  2. Dry roast fist of peanuts, let it cool n grind them in to fine powder.
  3. In a bowl add water and add the puffed rice and rest it for 5min till it is fully soaked in water n put the wet puffed rice in a strainer

Process/Method :

  1. Take a pan and heat oil add mustard seeds and let them splutter the add jeera/cumin,chana dal,urad dal n hing. When the dal changes it color add curry leaves
  2. Now add the boiled n cubed potatoes and fry for a min
  3. Add ginger garlic paste and fry till the rawness disappears
  4. Now add turmeric, coriander/dhania, chili powder , salt and mix well
  5. Add the strained puffed rice to the pan and mix well till the powders get mixed well with puffed rice
  6. Add dry roasted peanut powder and mix well
  7. Now add fresh grated coconut powder n pinch of sugar and mix it very good
  8. Finally check the taste and adjust salt accordingly
  9. Garnish with coriander leaves n lemon juice n mix well n switch off the stove.

Tips :

  • Don't soak puffed rice for longtime,if it is soaked too much it becomes mashy while mixing

Looks good.
Is it aval upma/ aloo pova?
Then it is not called puffed rice (pori)it is called beaten rice(aval)
Correct me if i am wrong.
This is a very popular snack all over India and can be easily made. One can make even puliyodarai with this.
